How the web and HTML work
How the web and HTML work
HTML describes the structure and meaning of content. A browser downloads a document, parses its elements, builds a document tree and displays it. HTML is not a programming language: it marks up headings, paragraphs, links, images, forms and other content.
Try it yourself
Change the example, run it, and explain the result in your own words. Then create one variation of your own.
Key idea
Use the example as a starting point, not something to memorize. Practise, inspect the result and make small improvements.
Code example
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head><meta charset="UTF-8"><title>My page</title></head>
<body><h1>Hello, web!</h1></body>
</html>
